Troubleshooting Sprinkler System Malfunctions

Sprinkler systems are a great way to keep your lawn healthy and green. However, they can be prone to malfunctioning from time to time. Luckily, most malfunctions can be easily fixed with a few simple troubleshooting steps. Let’s explore some of the most common sprinkler system malfunctions and how to fix them. If these don’t fix your issues, it’s time to call Inspect360 for a sprinkler inspection.

Low-Pressure Issues

If you notice that your sprinklers are not providing enough water coverage or are not distributing water evenly across your lawn, then there may be an issue with the pressure of the sprinklers. Low pressure is usually caused by clogged filters or broken pipes in the system, so check those first. If all looks good, then it could be an issue with the water supply itself. Check if there is any kind of disruption in your home’s water supply. If that’s not the case, then it's time for a full inspection.

Leaking Sprinklers

One of the most common issues with sprinkler systems is leaking sprinklers. If a sprinkler head is leaking when it should be off, then there may be an issue with the solenoid valve or diaphragm inside of it. To troubleshoot this issue, turn off all power to the system and remove the head from its body using a wrench or pliers, and inspect for any damage or debris. If everything looks fine, then you might just need to replace some of the gaskets inside of it, which should solve the problem.

Clogged Nozzles

Clogged nozzles can cause low-pressure issues as well as uneven distribution of water across your lawn. Uneven watering can lead to dry spots on your grass over time. To clean out a clogged nozzle, use an adjustable wrench or pliers to unscrew it from its body and clean out any dirt or debris inside. You can easily do this with a toothbrush before screwing it back on again. Be sure to check all nozzles regularly for any clogs; otherwise, they will continue to accumulate over time and cause more serious problems down the road.
